LT Desktop is a lightweight, blazing-fast desktop client for LibreTranslate, built with Tauri (Rust + React). No Electron, no bloat.
What can you do?
- Translate text instantly using LibreTranslate’s official server at libretranslate_com, or point it to your own private self-hosted instance — full control over your data
- Choose from dozens of languages with a smart selector that syncs with the server
- Work with two side-by-side panels: source and target languages
- Browse your translation history, automatically saved locally (SQLite)
- Switch between light, dark, or system theme
- Copy results to clipboard with a single click
- Configure server URL and API Key right from the UI
- Translate quickly with Ctrl+Enter shortcut
Security first: CSP enabled, URL validation, configurable timeouts, API key kept out of the frontend’s reach, sanitized logs. Fully open source and transparent.
Cross-platform: Ready to build on Linux and macOS today. Windows support coming soon. All platform icons (AppImage, DEB, .icns for macOS, .ico for Windows) are already included.
Downloads (Linux x86_64):
- AppImage — portable, no installation required
- .deb — for Debian, Ubuntu and derivatives
- Raw binary — for those who want the bare minimum
License: GPL v3.0 — free as it should be.
