I followed the installation directions for libretranslate on your site, and it created it’s own user account, is this supposed to happen? seems weird to me.

Which instructions? If you used these https://github.com/argosopentech/LibreTranslate-init#libretranslate-init then yes it’s normal it created a user account (for security reasons).
