How to install french on Mac OS?

Hello everyone,

I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to this. It wasn’t easy, but I managed to install the Libretranslate API on Mac OS Sonoma (Apple Silicon) that I’m running with Docker. My joy was short-lived when I opened the API and realized that French wasn’t installed. I especially need to translate from English to French and vice versa. How can I install it? I’ve been searching for hours and I simply don’t know where I can find the file to download and also what is the command line to do so (on Mac OS with the configuration I told). Like I said I’m not a programmer or a dev and I’m missing technical knowledge.

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, welcome

What commands did you use to install libretranslate? French support should be installed by default. GitHub - LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate: Free and Open Source Machine Translation API. Self-hosted, offline capable and easy to setup.

Thank you for your answer! I also thought it would be installed as it’s a fairly common language.

Honestly, I don’t remember too much. It’s been two weeks since I installed it. I was helped by a video (I cannot put the link down, but it’s the only video on YouTube explaining the installation on a Mac) and by Chat GPT 3.5 to help me when I encountered difficulties. Maybe Chat GPT told me something wrong. Should I start from scratch or is there a command I can run to download all languages or maybe just add French? I may be blind, but I can’t find it on the GitHub page and like I said, I’m fairly new to this kind of installation.

Yes I would start from scratch, checking the instructions from our readme: GitHub - LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate: Free and Open Source Machine Translation API. Self-hosted, offline capable and easy to setup.

They might work better than ChatGPT.
